New Book Teaches Young People Important Skills for Leading Others
PROVIDENCE, Utah – With thousands of young people taking on principal roles in groups such as sports teams, yearbooks staffs and scout troops, many are experiencing leadership for the first time. In his new book, Excellence in Leadership, Volume I: 8 Skills for Leaders of All Ages (now available through AuthorHouse), Dr. K. Preston Anderson offers a self-help guide that teaches young people leadership skills they can use for life.
While many books are geared only toward 30-something, career-driven readers, Excellence in Leadership, Volume I was written to include a group Anderson feels is often overlooked. Many young people today seek to initiate change in the world, but without polished leadership abilities, that can be difficult. His new book helps teachers and parents instruct youth leaders, and it also allows students to educate themselves.
Anderson pinpoints eight distinct leadership skills that are vital for heading up any group. Packed with inspirational quotations and real-life examples of successful leaders in business, government and other fields, the chapters end with charts for readers to set goals and track their progress. Students learn in-depth information about these crucial areas of focus:
• Setting Goals
• Developing Confidence in Humility
• Effectively Prioritizing
• Learning to Delegate
• Practicing Servant Leadership
• Realizing the Power of Example
• Rekindling the Spark of Excitement
In easy-to-understand language that appeals to young people and older adults alike, Excellence in Leadership, Volume I brings the wisdom about motivating others to the people who will be the next generation of leaders in the world.
Anderson has worked with high school- and college-age students for years in the Boy Scouts of America, at church and in other organizations. A motivational speaker for conferences organized by Brigham Young University, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Mandarin Chinese from Brigham Young, a master’s degree in education and a doctorate in management and organizational leadership from the University of Phoenix. He and his wife, Ruth, live with their three daughters in Providence, Utah, where Anderson is currently running for mayor. More information is available at
